Privacy policy
Your Mac preferences stay local. Online licence checks, purchases and website analytics have separate data flows, explained here.
Effective 30 October 2026
On your Mac
Device controls and preferences are processed locally. Choosing a microphone changes the input selection; it does not record voice. Keyboard sounds use key events to choose a local sound. SoundBuddy does not send typed text, microphone audio or Bluetooth addresses through its usage-reporting or licence-check payloads. The browser typing demo keeps its text in page memory.
Global keyboard sounds require an optional Input Monitoring permission. Microphone selection and local sound previews are separate from that permission. You control permissions in macOS System Settings.
Optional app usage reporting
The direct-download 0.4.1 build 25 installer ships without a PostHog ingestion token or host. Usage sharing is off by default. Automatic remote crash reporting, screen capture and remote diagnostic-log export are disabled.
The app includes PostHog support for explicitly enabled, configured builds. Its allowed usage events are app opens, Input Lock on/off and Bluetooth connect/disconnect with a device category. Device names, typed text, audio and file paths are excluded from those event properties. A launch environment can supply configuration; the standard installer does not supply a reporting destination. Licence checks are required separately and do not depend on usage-sharing consent.
Licence activation and checks
The installed app communicates directly with Dodo Payments over HTTPS. Activation sends your licence key and the fixed label “SoundBuddy on Mac”. Validation and deactivation send the key and its activation instance ID. Your activation record is saved in macOS Keychain. Paid builds check at launch and about every ten minutes while running.
These request bodies do not include typed text, microphone audio, your Mac name or hardware serial number. Dodo can associate the key with your purchase and receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address. An internet connection is required to verify the licence.
Purchases, downloads and support
Dodo Payments is our reseller and Merchant of Record. It processes checkout, billing details, payment, receipts and licence delivery under its privacy policy. SoundBuddy does not receive your full card number through its checkout integration.
To recover a download, you submit your purchase email and licence key to the SoundBuddy website. Our server uses Dodo to verify the customer, licence and file entitlement, then supplies the installer. Keep your key and download links private. Selected payment, refund and entitlement event identifiers, status and timestamps are stored in our payment database to track delivery and avoid duplicate processing.
If you register interest, we store the email you submit. If you contact support, we receive your email and the information you choose to include. Please do not send passwords or full payment-card details.
Website analytics and browser storage
This website uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity on marketing pages. They can receive page and interaction information, browser/device information, identifiers, cookies and connection metadata. Clarity provides session analytics. Native app usage sharing does not control website analytics.
The website suppresses analytics initialization on checkout, welcome, buyer-download and review routes. The Google script loader can still be requested on those routes. Do not put licence keys or other private information in a page URL. Our checkout return handler removes provider email/key parameters before rendering the welcome page.
You can block analytics or clear cookies through your browser controls and extensions. See Google’s privacy policy and Microsoft’s privacy statement. The site also stores your theme preference in local browser storage; that preference is separate from analytics.
Service providers and retention
We use Vercel for website hosting, a PostgreSQL database for email interest and payment receipts, Dodo Payments for purchases/licensing and email services for support. Hosting and service providers may process request logs and connection information to operate and secure their services, including outside your country.
We retain information needed to provide access, answer support requests, reconcile purchases and meet applicable accounting, fraud-prevention and legal obligations. Retention depends on the record and provider; there is no single deletion period for all records. Contact us to request access, correction or deletion of information we hold. Some purchase records may need to be retained, and providers control their own records under their policies.
Changes
We update this page when our data practices change. Its effective date appears above. A different release or reporting configuration must be assessed separately from build 25.
